How an estimate is calculated

The Traffic MVP starts with a service-specific base range, then applies broad adjustments for property size, activity level and affected location. ZIP is checked for five-digit format only and does not change the result because we do not have a defensible ZIP-level price dataset. Add-on scope such as exclusion, cleanup and structural repair remains visible instead of being silently folded into a generic average.

  × access/location factor

These adjustment factors are planning heuristics, not ZIP-level labor indexes or contractor bid data. Input combinations materially outside the published base scope receive a lower-confidence label so the wider result is not mistaken for a directly observed market range.

What the model does not do

• It does not diagnose a pest or wildlife species.
• It does not provide a binding quote.
• It does not claim a provider is available in a ZIP code.
• It does not include damage repair unless stated.
• It does not collect a name, phone number or street address.

Source hierarchy

1. Government and public-health sourcesEPA, CDC, USDA, state agencies and licensing bodies for safety, scope and regulatory context.
2. University extensionSpecies, seasonality, building access and integrated pest-management guidance.
3. Observable market dataPublished service ranges, provider scope examples and quote components—cross-checked, dated and never treated as regulation.
4. Future first-party product dataIf privacy-reviewed measurement is enabled, aggregate Calculator patterns may inform later revisions. Verified quote or call outcomes would only be considered after monetization begins.

Confidence labels

Moderate confidence means the service, property band, location and activity level are known. Lower confidence means key details are unknown or the job often depends on concealed access, species identification or inspection findings.

Update policy

Each price model carries a version and update date. Material changes require a source review, calculation test and page-level update. Once publication and source control begin, prior published model revisions will be retained so an earlier estimate can be reconstructed.
